ÖGDigital Nominated for the 2026 UX Design Awards

A good user experience is easily lost in specialized applications. Yet good usability in the backend also makes life easier for administrative staff. ÖGDigital brings the joy of digital use to public health departments – and has been nominated for the 2026 UX Design Awards for its work.

Approximately 22,000 employees at public health departments perform important administrative tasks every day—ranging from school entrance examinations to hygiene inspections and infection surveillance. For a long time, paper forms, siloed systems, and redundant data entry defined their daily work. ÖGDigital addresses this very issue: as a unified, web-based application landscape that consistently designs processes from the users’ perspective.

The international expert jury of the 2026 UX Design Awards has now confirmed that this approach is a winner. ÖGDigital received a “Nominated” distinction in the “Enterprise Solution – Health” category. Out of a total of 500 submissions from 46 countries, the solution has qualified for the next round of the competition. ÖGDigital will now undergo a detailed jury evaluation and compete for the top honors as well as the People’s Choice Award.

ÖGDigital is the state of Baden-Württemberg’s solution for public health services and is offered through Komm.ONE. ÖGDigital was and continues to be developed by HBSN, xitee, and ]init[ as commissioned development partners.

ÖGDigital demonstrates that a good user experience isn't just the preserve of consumer apps. Anyone who handles complex administrative tasks on a daily basis deserves an interface that thinks for itself. The nomination is a tribute to everyone who contributed to the solution.

What convinced the jury was the approach taken from the very beginning: Real-world workflows in public health departments were analyzed, and experts were directly integrated into the design process through workshops, interviews, and field observations. Prototypes were tested on-site, feedback was incorporated, and user interfaces were refined iteratively. The goal was to create an application that makes complex tasks manageable – without the need for extensive training.

The result is evident in the details: appointments are scheduled digitally; data is entered once and seamlessly transferred through all process steps. Checklists follow the actual workflow. Reports, letters, and statistics are automatically generated from templates. Color-coding – such as for tracking dental status – enables quick orientation. For field assignments involving hygiene inspections or water sampling, the application works offline and synchronizes automatically. ÖGDigital reduces cognitive load and empowers staff to take action—both during routine operations and in a crisis.
