The Germany4Ukraine assistance portal is a trustworthy, secure, and digital resource for refugees from Ukraine. Within 10 days, the portal we developed was up and running, followed shortly thereafter by the app. The cross-media communication campaign for the assistance portal had an impact from the very first minute. At long-distance train stations and rest stops, on social media, and in the press, it provided access to information that facilitates arrival and integration in Germany.

For this achievement, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland (BMI) was honored on May 22, 2023, with the Politikaward for the most effective social campaign. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser accepted the award in front of 400 invited guests from Berlin’s political circles.

I am absolutely thrilled for the entire Germany4Ukraine team on winning the Politikaward. This is a tremendous achievement for an important project that refugees from Ukraine themselves have helped to create.

Germany4Ukraine provides multilingual information on key topics. People – mostly women with children – who have fled the war are intended to receive quick and straightforward assistance in Germany, for example, in finding safe housing and basic necessities.

In addition, the portal provides administrative services online. To reach those affected as quickly as possible, targeted communication efforts drew attention to the help portal. This was achieved through numerous partnerships with various influencers from civil society and the business sector, such as Alliance4Ukraine, #UnterkunftUkraine, and Airbnb.org.

The Politikaward shines a spotlight on the major socially relevant issues of our time. To have been honored in this context for our work on Germany4Ukraine is a special recognition for the entire project team behind the success of the portal and app.
