The immigration administration translates policy goals into effective enforcement: from visas and residence permits to naturalization. It shapes order, the ability to act, and trust in the rule of law.

Policy objectives must contend with federally distributed responsibilities, numerous stakeholders, and a high caseload. When handoffs, data flows, and processing do not function seamlessly, delays occur. Inquiries pile up, and cases remain unresolved. This places a burden on people who are submitting applications or seeking protection.

This is precisely where ]init[ comes in as a consulting and implementation partner for end-to-end digitization. We make processes manageable across organizational and jurisdictional boundaries, reduce risks, increase efficiency, and ensure reliable implementation.

One team, one focus

]init[ has consolidated its expertise into a dedicated division focused on immigration administration. The team combines subject-matter, technical, legal, and organizational expertise – and translates requirements into processes that can be reliably implemented.

The department employs 30 experts from all areas of the company: project management, strategy and IT consulting, and business analysis. They are exclusively responsible for digitalization projects in migration administration—and work with the Federal Foreign Office, immigration authorities, state agencies focused on migration and integration, as well as federal and state interior ministries.

For implementation, we scale across the entire ]init[ portfolio: with around 1,400 specialists for all components of digital products and solutions, bringing flexibility and speed to implementation. This allows us to deliver complex platform projects from a single source – from consulting and design through implementation and further development to secure operation.

The value of our work

01

Less friction in the enforcement process

We use cutting-edge technologies to streamline processes at the government agencies responsible for immigration.

02

Clear decisions

Decisions regarding residency must always be fully accountable. We ensure this through fast, reliable, and transparent procedures.

03

Relief and Effect

Our digital solutions help reduce the workload on staff and improve the efficiency of the immigration administration.

Our Approach

In our projects, we combine three elements that we believe are inextricably linked in migration programs:

End-to-end digital solutions

We design end-to-end digital processes – using components that can be reused at the federal or state level. In doing so, we develop solutions in accordance with the Deutschland-Stack, adhere to established standards, and apply the “once-only” principle. This makes procedures faster, more transparent, and easier for everyone involved: from clear information and structured application processes, through documentation and technical processing, to the final decision and notification.

Comprehensive Process Optimization

We don’t just digitize existing processes – we simplify them. This means reducing the number of process variations, clearly mapping out rules and regulations, clarifying responsibilities, and streamlining handoffs. This creates a foundation on which automation can function reliably.

Process support

Large-scale projects require more than just a go-live. We support organizational changes, rollouts, quality assurance, and ongoing development – ensuring that solutions run smoothly, remain interoperable, and improve over time rather than becoming obsolete.

Our Areas of Focus

Migration administration involves balancing a variety of objectives: processes must be scalable, remain sensitive to protection needs, and at the same time be clearly manageable. That is why we are implementing our end-to-end digitization in three areas – each with the same goal: fewer disconnects, greater speed, and greater traceability.

Immigration & Labor Migration

Skilled worker immigration is a crucial factor in Germany’s competitiveness and ability to attract business. To enable companies to fill open positions with skilled workers from abroad, we need procedures that are predictable, fast, and reliable. We support the digitization of these processes – from application submission to the final decision – and, as an implementation partner, bring experience from ongoing projects, including the International Portal and the Migration Germany Service Portal.

What matters most is seamless integration across the board: with immigration authorities, state-level structures, and subordinate departments. With clear workflows, stable interfaces, and practical processing procedures, we ensure that digital processes function effectively in practice.

Humanitarian Migration

We design digital processes to ensure they run smoothly even under heavy caseloads. This includes consistent documentation, clear communication, and reliable interfaces with immigration authorities. Our guiding principle is that digitization must not create additional barriers. It should make access and processing easier – both for people seeking protection and for the agencies handling the cases.

End of stay

When it comes to granting, extending, or terminating residency permits, transparency and legal certainty are paramount. Clearly defined, transparent processes lay the groundwork for decisions that can be clearly justified and documented. End-to-end digitization supports this with clear procedural workflows and legally compliant documentation.

Process Optimization with AI

Migration processes involve many steps that can be checked based on rules or validated technically. When used correctly, automation reduces the workload in areas where routine tasks currently consume time: completeness and plausibility checks, formal requirements, structured case creation, and prioritization.

To this end, we are developing ANIKA, a solution for automated document verification – with an integrated AI component for preliminary application screening. Case workers can classify documents more quickly, trigger follow-up requests more precisely, and better prepare for processing without shifting responsibility for decisions.

Our benchmark: fewer media breaks, fewer follow-up inquiries, and less duplication of effort. Instead of merely being “available online,” we focus on optimized procedures with clear data flows and process logic that reduces the burden on government agencies and supports swift, transparent decisions.

From idea to launch in ten days

When setting up the Germany4Ukraine aid portal, things had to move quickly. With our extensive project experience in the public sector, we supported the Federal Ministry of the Interior and for the Interior (BMI) in this task in an agile and user-oriented manner.
