Milestone for modernization of German weapon administration
In cooperation with experts from states and local authorities, ]init[ has developed the XÖV standard XWaffe for the plan “Nationales Waffenregister “ (NRW) from Deutschland-Online, which is now finished and published. XWaffe becomes the binding basis for the delivery of data by approx. 570 German weapon offices for the new digital weapons register. From 2012, which is two years earlier than stipulated by the EU, authorities with tasks in the areas of order and safety will be able to access the centralized stored data regarding the acquisition and possession of firearms in Germany.
Dr Joachim Sturm, project manager in the Federal Ministry of the Interior: “In the interest of public safety and for the effective execution of tasks by the German weapon offices and police forces, we are going to table a bill for creation of the national weapons register with high priority. In an additional legal regulation, the interface XWaffe will be defined as the binding standard for the surveillance of firearms.” Thus, administration of the possession of weapons with index cards and media disruptions will be a thing of the past as every involved department uses a common and at all times actual data pool.
In just ten months, ]init[ created the communication interface XWaffe, which can be used as from now by providers of public weapons administration software to develop their products further. At the moment there is the invitation to tender for the technical realization of the national weapons register.
